Seems like a prudent decision to me. Good luck in the execution!

Sorry if I'm off-topic, but may you tell me what "fork" exactly mean, as I see this word a lot and I don't know what is it.
Is it something like duplication of something ?!
A "fork in the road" is a place where you can go down different paths. In the same way forking a set of software or a blockchain means there is a place where you can take different paths going forward. Quite literally one blockchain becomes two. They share all of the same blocks up to a point but when the new software is installed the blockchain will potentially fork due to different logic (i.e., the old way and the new way) controlling block creation.
Of course the idea is to get all affected software updated as quickly as possible so that we are back to a single universally agreed upon blockchain as quickly as possible. This usually goes smoothly but it a potentially dangerous moment in the life of a blockchain. To help things go smoothly, end users may be encouraged not to conduct transactions for a block of time to ease the transition.
Once in a blue moon a software update to the core codeset that was not intended to cause a fork does so anyway. In the case everyone is urged to stop transactions entirely until the problem is cured. This is the true 'crisis mode' for a blockchain and, thus far, the communities behind the major blockchains have rallied together to deal with these rare situations with admirable aplomb.
Just saw this link to cryptocoins news on my RSS feed and saw on the r/dogecoin page as well. I know this is something many in the doge community were not looking forward to, but this will most assuredly help to maintain their survival and prevent a 51% attack. Plus, if a doge miner really doesn't want to, its not like they HAVE to mine Litecoin anyways.
I believe this to be pretty big news for the upcoming dogeparty initiative as well!
Interesting road they are taking. I hope it secures the future of Doge. I have alot and I am holding for the long term.
Merged mining? Finally!
@bobjohnson12321 Merged mining? Finally!
Sort of. Kind of. Not really.
1) Dogecoin miners are not forced to mine litecoin.
2) A miner of any coin with a compatible script algo and high enough difficulty qualifies. Right now that means litecoin, but in the future, who knows?
3) Effectively, yes.
So I would effectively be mining Dogecoin and getting LTC out of it, but if I was to mine strictly LTC then no DOGE out of it? I should read more indepth about what this means. I guess I just assumed merged mining finally
Interesting. I don't know any hardcore shibes who didn't get in to the community through mining. I wonder how doge will maintain it's following now that mining is essentially our of reach for the entry level enthusiast? I'm sure they will think up something clever.
looks like, time to invest in doge :)
