I don't know how many of you out there use IFTTT, but it is a pretty cool app that allows you to create your own custom logic commands to let your apps interact with one another. For instance, "If the forecast is rain tomorrow, send me a SMS."

I don't know if anyone else here is using this app, but perhaps this news just might sway you to that direction. just saw on their blog that IFTTT is now supporting blockchain logic commands through their "Chain Channel" API, essentially allowing you to keep track of any BTC you send or receive, monitor blockchain transactions, keep tabs of the price of bitcoin, and quite possibly more. I haven't dug into the API yet, but I wonder if this could be leveraged to also keep track of Counterparty or other meta protocol assets? Getting very excited here thinking of all the awesome commands I could create on my phone with this!

This looks like a pretty cool tool. I'm not much of a programmer so I don't think I'll be able to make it do anything counterparty but I hope someone else can.

@therealtwig This is exciting indeed! Or, it feels like there's a lot that we could do with this but I don't send bitcoin all too often to the point that automating it would be useful. Another way to put it is, if I buy bitcoin periodically there's no trigger and if I sell bitcoin for a purchase (like through overstock.com) there's no trigger for the purchase either. Do you have any ideas in mind?

@unwrittenjamaican IFTTT (If this then that) was specifically made for the non-programmer so it'd do you some good to check out there site.

Well looking at this more, the only supported triggers are currently to do an action whenever bitcoin is sent or received from a particular address, or when a certain bitcoin price is reached.

I would agree about not seeing a point to this if you don't normally see action with bitcoin on a regular basis. However, one trigger I thought could be pretty useful is one for my LTBc address to see when funds have been added to it on the blockchain. Of course, all I would be able to see is the dust amount of BTC added to the address and not the particular counterparty asset that has been added. But, I'd like to think about it as sort of a push notification to check my counterwallet because something has just been put into it.

With that functionality in mind, this particular IFTTT trigger would be sort of a vanilla version of the EmailMe service @deweller recently launched, but without the bonus of being able to see your exact counterwallet balance. You could also extend it to not just send an e-mail, but a SMS, or perhaps an automated tweet saying "W00t!!! I received LTB coin today!"

One cool thing you can do with that ifttt channel is record the bitcoin price and transaction amount in Google Sheets everytime a transaction comes or goes. This would greatly simplify taxes for active US bitcoin users.

Too bad it can't read counterwallet blockchains yet.

Just for fun, I created an IFTTT recipe that will automatically send a tweet out when any amount of BTC is sent to your LTBcoin compatible address.

    The tweet says the following:

Woot! Just received LTBcoin! To find out how you can too, visit http://letstalkbitcoin.com (via Chain)

If you like this trigger, feel free to use it!

Also, @dpc Thanks for the heads up on the google sheet trigger! Going to be playing around with this soon!

@therealtwig But, I'd like to think about it as sort of a push notification to check my counterwallet because something has just been put into it.

If I included the total balance of the asset (or all assets) in the email from EmailMe, would that be a more compelling reason to use my service?

I think that functionality would most definitely be something that separates your service more from what IFTTT is already offering with Chain. Having the option to at least receive a notification saying what specific asset was added to your account would be pretty cool. The final balance could even just be an optional thing for the user.

Yes I like this, because this may also encourage the exchange of altcoins, and naturally LTBc as well.

Could you integrate your service as an ifttt channel https://ifttt.com/platform? I don't like email, but it would be nice to have a record in Google sheets. I would definitely pay for the service if I had a nice archive of my transactions. I'm not sure how selective they are but ifttt just added chain and it might be a good way to add eyeballs to your service. I would imagine chain is going yo stay focused on bitcoin exclusively for a while and ifttt has other competing channels.
