Okay, I made a big deal about Ferguson here:

I asked for a right-wing response from the Tea Party, and we got one, a good one. Rand Paul has been a controversial figure. I don't agree with many things he stands for. He has, unfortunately, sometimes changed his mind. Sometimes he apologizes after actually doing something good. Nevertheless I would like to offer some support for his efforts.

This is what Rand Paul wrote in TIME Magazine:

Rand Paul: We Must Demilitarize the Police:

http://time.com/3111474/rand-paul-ferguson-police/

"Anyone who thinks race does not skew the application of criminal justice in this country is just not paying close enough attention"

"If I had been told to get out of the street as a teenager, there would have been a distinct possibility that I might have smarted off. But, I wouldn’t have expected to be shot."

"The images and scenes we continue to see in Ferguson resemble war more than traditional police action."

Credit must be given where it is due. Thank you Rand Paul for doing the right thing.

The police are not directly accountable for their actions to the people, but to the state. If the people in state institutions admitted they ran the state for their own interest things would not be so bad, but as it is, we are told that the state acts on our behalf and in our interest and we are stupid enough to think it true.

How anyone could think being killed, on the pretence it is good for society, could possibly be in their interest is lost on me, I have to admit.

EDIT: I know this topic was about humility, but I think there is a wider problem encompassing the humility of a representative and that is the institutions of government, or rather government itself. Central, monopoly government leads to the people within always working toward their own goals rather than that of the greater society, no matter what the intention.

The reason for that being the case is a knowledge problem, we can only ever go by what is contained in our heads and our conceived view of the world can never reflect that of even one other person, never mind the "will" of millions.
