Darkcoin (DRK) may be on to something...

I've recently bought a small amount of Darkcoin because I think anonymity is a desirable asset.  Like it or not, for various reasons it's in demand, and there's no good solution currently.
The developer seems talented.  When the KGW exploit came out he offhandedly implemented a new difficulty retargeting algorithm, forked the coin, and kept on rollin'.  Darkcoin has been issued and is currently mined, but the Darksend wallet is still under development, making this (IMO) a good time to get in.  Darksend will include a native tumbling service which mixes and conceals transactions.

Has anyone else noticed this coin, and if so, what is your opinion?

Does Darkcoin have zerocoin built into it or something?  Or is it just  a name and they're going to build a mixing service?

Darksend will be a distributed, decentralized coinjoin implementation.  Transactions are aggregated then processed through an elected master node.
    Here's the whitepaper: http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/DarkcoinWhitepaper.pdf

Re: Zerocoin, here's an interview with the dev where he addresses the difference:
"Eventually it will be important and useful to have a real anonymous currency for web based business. Bitcoin is a huge leap in the right direction, but it’s still not perfect. Recently some projects have popped up here and there, but none of them meet all of the criteria of a true solution to this problem. Most of the proposed solutions to this problem are centralized and that requires a measure of trust that the central server is playing by the rules and also not compromised and recording the traffic it is dealing with.Another solution proposed by some graduate students is called Zerocoin, it seemed like an interesting idea but it uses untested cutting-edge cryptography which could prove to be insecure with a centralized server that functions as an accumulator. There is a definite need for an implementation that solves the anonymity problem with a decentralized approach and proven technology."

1:16:00 - Kristov Atlas giving the thumbs up to Darkcoin.

I have just read the white paper and unfortunately to my comprehension it may as well be posted on the Non English Board. I will read again when a little less tired.

If this is a truly anonymous coin then I would imagine the value will rise quickly. I'm in!

kerneloops said: I started CPU mining DRK a few weeks back by setting up a "droplet" (simple server) at Digital Ocean and so far I am quite convinced my mining effort is most definitely not the best way to obtain a good amount of coins. Of course, in 6 mos time when DRK surpasses BTC, I'll be all smiles.

Ha, well, don't discount the fact or PR and news organizations.  I like the idea behind DarkCoin, but, realistically, can a currency with "Dark" in the name really be seen as viable?  I'm way into the bitcoin space, and it still sounds "shady" to me... no pun intended.

So many altcoins but only several coins can survive. I don't think Darkcoin can make it.
