CoinTerra today announced their next generation Bitcoin Miner – the AIRE Miner™. At an expected performance per watt of 5x the current generation miners, the 16nm ASIC based AIRE Miner is now available for limited time pre-order with expected delivery in Q1 2015.

An even smaller chip size from CoinTerra it seems is on the horizon and they are doing pre-orders.

What are your thoughts regarding the company, the chip size, and the fact they are pre-orders and not shipping immediately?

Are you a miner? Will you be looking at these new units?

Does anyone buy these anymore or is it just large mining operations? I figure they would put more emphasis on delivering to customer with an order exceeding $1 million than an individual who only purchased 1 miner.

Everyone I know who has purchased has purchased more than 10 units at a time if that says anything.

    Just give up already cointerra...

Their reputation got totally destroyed after the fail that was called terraminer IV. Lots of units malfunctioning, refunding issues, delays, underperformance.

So when this company announces a new miner, think twice before ordering.

  • yousure?

At the moment peercoin is more profitable than bitcoin, it uses the same SHA-256 algo of btc, so they should be minable with cointerra miners.

Kinda. I guess its a matter of adding to an existing operation or starting out as well as how much risk you want to put into trusting when they will ship. It also means you have some financially well off friends!

Yeah, they've been really in to the mining side of things recently although I still struggle to see ROI on this sort of stuff to be honest with you. It kind of feels like a gamble.

    It is a gamble.

I look at mining more from the standpoint of securing the network but perhaps the network is "plenty secure" from what I have heard pundits say.
