I hadn't logged into my CounterParty Wallet for over a month until yesterday. When I did I was presented with the license agreement and when I agreed to it all my BTC and assets were missing. Obviously this caused a bit of a panic. I was pretty sure I was using the correct pass phrase. I had this stored in two places so I check the backup but still no luck.
Anyway after a few hour messing about and a bit of research I discovered that the CounterWallet deterministic Wallet algorithm changed on the 8th May. I set up my wallet on the 7th May. The way the change was implemented meant that it carried on working until mid July when I last logged in.
The good news is that you can recover the wallet. There exists a python script called CounterPartyHelper which can be found from the link below:
https://github.com/porqup1ne/CounterWalletHelper
It allows you to enter your pass phrase and it returns your Bitcoin Addresses. I ran this and it returned the correct addresses for my missing wallet. I then ran it again with the option to display the private keys for these addresses. Next I created a new CounterWallet and used the private keys with 'Import Funds', 'From Another Address' option of CounterWallet. It cost me a small amount of BTC and I have some BTC dust left in the old wallet but other than that I have recovered from potential disaster. I've also learn a little too in the process.
So if you find yourself in this situation, don't panic and with a bit of effort (and small amount of BTC) you can recover from this. If I find time I'll try and do a full write up of the process.
