Does anybody know if they reduced the limit to 40kb in the new implementation of bitcoin? My understanding was that it was orginally 80kb.

Because they can. Control is sometimes worth exercising just to demonstrate your control. It's really too bad.

OP_RETURN was decreased to 40kB at the last moment. It seems Bitcoin core devs are actively viewing XCP as a parasite which needs to be shaken off.
There is a long winded discussion at Bitcointalk (Adam made an appearance there too).0 likes -

Will this affect LTBcoin implementation/release?

this seems significant. all bitcoin 2.0 that actually use the Bitcoin blockchain are effected by this.although a short URL can be used to reference external data storage. This is similar to referencing XML from XML as an example. it adds bulk but Bitcoin devs may have a valid point in reducing blockchain arbitrary data storage.

Thanks for the responses, hopefully they can come up with a clean work around. Maybe they can jump on litecoin for the quicker responses Adam was looking for.

Counterparty devs will always find a way around to ensure the full functionality of the protocol (xcp). I read they already have something up their sleeves in case a filter is installed into bitcoin.

Its heating up https://www.counterparty.co/pay-to-pubkeyhash-functionality-added/
The discussions have made me look at Bitcoin in a new light. The huge energy waste and the concentration in the hand of the cartel is very concerning. I think, and it sounds very stupid at this point, that Bitcoin will become obsolete in future.0 likes -
