Information and a little investigation made by blog 247cryptonews.com: http://247cryptonews.com/bter-got-hacked-7000-bitcoins-stolen-7-different-accounts
There seems to be one suspect.

It seems like that "cold storage" wallet seems to have multiple outputs, making it a reused cold storage if indeed a cold storage at all. Cold storage wallets should be used 1 time for outputs, this one has 6 that i count on the first page, two of which happened moments before the 7 thousand went missing

because if you look at whoever has the BTC now, they have moved it to countless wallets, along the way splitting the bitcoins, and each of these wallets only have 1 output

Bter is still down at this point. I think this will be the death of them. Also it appears some other exchanges got hit, and of course a legacy bank got hit for $1 billion dollars.
Counterparties decentralized exchange needs some more efficient updates so we do not have to deal with this crap anymore (this day could not come soon enough)

Shame that Bitsquare couldn't reach their first funding goal. I am dying for easy-to-use decentralized exchanges. Counterwallet is great and it works at least, but it's not easy or fast enough for lots of people to count on.
