If you convert the LTB coins to BTC through Melotic you can send your bitcoins in whatever exchange you want :)

You should use an offline wallet to store your savings, don't trust too much the exchanges.

I would use blockchain.info as your "hot wallet". Have a little bit inside there for your day to day bitcoin needs. Store the rest in a more secure spot, like in offline storage (I prefer paper wallet) or get a super secure computer and get bitcoin-QT.

Since LTBcoins are XCP-based, I think they have inherent BTC worth, though it isn't much.
You can export Counterparty tokens to paper wallets, where the blockchain shows they have a minimal BTC value. Supposedly the LTBcoins can then be re-imported (supposedly, I haven't confirmed this yet) to a Counterparty wallet.
So you could just import your LTBcoins into your blockain.info wallet where they would be converted into bitcoin with meaningless meta-information, and if you spent this BTC I think it would destroy the LTBcoin.
Please feel free to correct me where I'm mistaken.

Oh yeah, I don't recommend doing this as I'm sure you could get much more BTC through Melotic or the Counterwallet exchange. It's just one of those theoretical answers.

isn't there an alternative to counterwallet, those fees just eat through my funds.

I hear ya. They are a bit much. Its hard to believe the cost of decentralization is so high.
They really should lower the trading fees seeing as how trades don't go through a lot of the time. I realize the fee is necessary in order to incentivize the network to process the transaction, but they shouldn't expect people to pay for a non-functioning product (BTC-related orders).
Regardless I have faith they will get the issues sorted out in due time. Hopefully they will consider reducing the trading fee.

Yes you can use another wallet but you should make it offline wallet.
