Some time ago I started a group text with several of my close friends with the intention of having an open ended ongoing discussion about bitcoin. Fellow LTB member clawdiuz and I have occasionally posted links and little snippets of information but really the main focus is to try to get these guys to further their knowledge of the space on their own. Each member of the group has a wallet (thanks to clawdiuz). We both began texting something like "whoever sends me a QR code or a public address first will receive x amount of bits". This method of trying to generate interest in bitcoin was a small success but it did not help anyone gain any further knowledge other than planting the seed of how cool and easy it is to transfer new magical internet money.
After weeks of apathy and general disinterest I decided to try something new. Yesterday marked the first day of Bitcoin Trivia. The rules are simple: I text a bitcoin related question worth x amount of bits and the first person to answer correctly within an hour wins. After the winner is declared I post a screenshot of the transfer from my wallet to the winner's address. This process has been made super easy with the address book in Mycelium. The reason for the time limit is to associate the group text and bitcoin trivia with a sense of urgency and hopefully making it a higher priority than it would be without the time limit. If the question is not answered within the hour I am happy to simply keep my bitcoin.
For now questions are being kept very basic. Most of the groups bitcoin knowledge is pretty low with the exception of clawdiuz who is overseeing and encouraging the game rather than participating due to the easier nature of some of the questions. The key to the daily trivia questions is that they must be easily searchable. For example todays question will be "Who is the author of Bitcoin A Peer-To-Peer Electronic Cash System" - I know how easy this sounds for all of you LTBers out there but this gives someone new to bitcoin the opportunity to see the white paper and hopefully read the white paper in the process.
I would love some feedback from the LTB community on how to improve Bitcoin Trivia and to possibly move forward with pushing the idea to the masses. I will post updates on a weekly basis as this experiment evolves and possibly provide screenshots of the conversation if that would be of interest to anyone.
