Hey y'all... I've been listening to the podcasts on the LTB network for almost a year now. I enjoy the anarchist, peer to peer, self actualization aspects of the bitcoin/ cryptocurrency community. I have also come across this Earthship Biotecture concept recently and I feel there could be great benefit to both if they began to recognize each other and cooperate. Earthships were first built in Taos, New Mexico in the 70's by Micheal Reynolds and some friends. They are houses that are built out of recycled materials, totally off the grid, and very sustainable. They heat and cool themselves, catch all their own water and use it three times before sending to a contained septic tank, and have greenhouses built in that grow food all year around even in cold climates. Michael Reynolds does not like taking large donations from philanthropists or corporations because he understands that when you take money from those entities they have more control over how and where he can build. The earthship team wants to be able to build these houses for people everywhere in the world, and they want to be able to constantly experiment with them and change them. And the earthship team has done some disaster relief building around the world. It's just not an easy task when they rely on donations from volunteers to fund their travel projects. This is where I feel bitcoin could initially help. If people wanted to help by donating they would be more confident that their funds were actually getting to where it's supposed to go without having to trust big 'charity' organizations. Also with projects like Grantcoin and Bitgive out there additional help could be accessed by communicating that we would like these projects to help something like earthips. I have actually corresponded with some of the people at Grantcoin and they seemed excited in helping out with something like this. In a future dream scenario it would be beautiful to think about the possibility of having pockets of free self sustaining communities that could cooperate and do transactions around the globe with bitcoin. Living totally outside of any government or corporate influence in a comfortable providing relationship with the earth.

or does this seem like hippy flower babble?

In practice we've found that Bitcoin is one of a bunch of disruptive, synergistic so-called "enabling" technologies that promote self sufficiency and long term sustainability in locally adapted applications of global principals.

I think the place to start would just be accepting bitcoin for donations and as payment for their services.

I agree. That would be an excellent place to start. It seems there are people out there who wish to genuinely help but practically can only really provide funding. Which is one of the major perks of bitcoin; knowing that funds people provide have a good chance of making it to the intended project.

I'm planning on doing an internship down in Taos, NM in December and was definitely going to bring up bitcoin to people there and attempt to spread the world and inform them as best I can about how beneficial bitcoin is. These things must work both ways!

Just trying to get the community here familiar with the Earthship concept.

(probably should have mentioned in the first post that the video link in the top of that post is a pretty good into doc to earthships)
