Here's a recent article - http://www.startupsmart.com.au/technology/australian-banks-need-to-get-serious-about-bitcoin-before-its-too-late/2014062412579.html?utm_source=Outbrain&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=startupsmart

Quote... Earlier this year South Africa’s Standard Bank launched a pilot Bitcoin trading portal, while late last year Fidor Bank partnered with digital currency exchange Kraken to offer regulated bitcoin trading services to its European customers. “Unfortunately I am not seeing this level of innovation in the Australian banking industry which is surprising given that we are a nation of early adopters,” he says.

Is it a case of the bitcoin community speaking to oz banks more emphatically?

They recognize the important role of the new digital economy and think Big Data would be the only choice for them to stay in the fray http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/bc70c9fe-4e1d-11e3-8fa5-00144feabdc0.html#axzz37Ib2eQIC

I have actually had the idea of going around my local community and talking to local bank managers about what they think about bitcoin. Getting a feel for what real world financial types think about it, and if they have even herd of it, would, i'm sure, be a totally different perspective to expose myself to than the ones I am getting on the Let's Talk Bitcoin Network, it's forum and Reddit's Bitcoin subreddit.

oh they've looked at it, just with much disapproval. I have heard some stories about canadian banks shutting out bitcoin businesses.

I havnt had too much experience with that myself, but I did straight up get told by an RBC manager last year "you shouldnt be doing these types of transactions" when selling on localbitcoins, and they forced me to close my account with them after freezing all my money for 2 weeks.. yeah that was fun. long story short, got scammed on an e-transfer on localbitcoins. bank refused to help or acknowledge my proof and thought it was super suspicious what I was doing. idiots >_>

I actually didnt know that there was all this evidence of banks interacting/experimenting with bitcoin in the first place. So that's exciting.

In Holland it's a different story, banks are starting to target bitcoin users. Rabobank is calling its business clients to inform them, that they are not allowed to trade crypto. They closed last moths at least 10 accounts from bitcoiners. Sometime story it's not related to bitcoin trading at all, for instance account from journalists from Dutch bitcoin new website http://coincourant.nl/

Well with the Vault of Satoshi exchange here in canada you can now deposit via interact online e-transfer and see your funds appear in your account in 1 hour. They now provide this functionality for all major Canadian banks. How can you say they've never looked at it?
