Hey all, I'm a young Aussie currently establishing myself as a crochet sculpture artist.

In my work, I think of myself like a 3d printer, each piece a unique rendering of a set of parameters based on available resources, e.g. materials, time, size of hook.

The work is a direct reference to technology, networking & mathematics, in an analogue form.

I have been thinking about alternative funding models and am interested in crypto currency.

I have an idea, something along the lines of a system whereby for each unique piece I produce, I am able to generate a unique digital encryption that acts as a form of digital representation & ownership. This receipt could be worth x many artcoins. So, if i sell a work to you (for $$), you would get both the physical work and a reciept worth x-artcoins. it would be an interesting experiment in tracking my net worth as an artist, it would also provide a possible easy rout of access to crypto for the laymen.

Of course, I am not an expert in this field. I would be really interested to see if anyone has any thoughts on this/other models I might be able to explore.

Thanks

I have been thinking a lot about using tokens for artists and service providers with the concept of allowing them to conduct pre-sales, auctions and/or to reward loyal customers. The problems are four-fold: 1) easy access to the tokens for potential customers who are not crypto savvy; 2) the expense of using counterwallet or colored coins to distribute the tokens; and 3) lack of "worked examples" showing how people have done this before, and 4) potential regulation of any virtual currency.

Now LBTcoin itself along with the community helps a bit with #3 and dogeparty can help with #2 (altohoug dogecoin brings along some of its' own problems as well.) I am not too worried about #4 although we, as an active alternate currency based community definitely need to draft a response to the proposed bitlicense.

It is #1 that has me stymied. We need technology -- most likely involving intergration with facebook -- that makes it easy for non-crypto savvy people to get on board with alternate tokens even if they don't know anything about bitcoin. Ultimately this means fiat to/from the tokens if you want full functionality. Perhaps a model where the tokens are used purely a rewards program needs to come first as it reduces the need for exchanges or other token on ramps.

I will be following up on some of the ideas above in other threads as time permits.

I should also mention that your idea to track the purchased asset by a receipt token is very interesting. There are a lot of people involved with 2.0+ crypto efforts thinking about that one too as the current systems for tracking land ownership and such are horribly antiquated and there is a huge upside to anyone who can figure out how to track unique real world assets in the digital realm.

I have been thinking about this quite a bit and I had an idea.

After reading Corey Doctorow's Little Brother and hearing about RFID's I was thinking to myself about how I could use technology to make my life easier. I have been producing work like crazy and atm I have no idea how much work I have, where it is, or what they look like.

In terms of workflow, it's be awesome if I could have a real world to digital world Content Management System. Ideally, I see this as a replacement to writing down descriptive specs on a static piece of paper, and more along the lines of a program, which would allow me to fill in the fields of variable perimeters, creating a reference in my database to the new work, and then encode this information onto an RFID, which I could then physically attach to the work.

Maybe like a open-source, customizable version of what shops to do catalog stock?

If this worked as well as it does it in my brain then it could provide a foundation to sell and track the real-work content using crypto.
