The Ethereum project starts on the live network tomorrow. Anyone plan on mining? If so, CPU or GPU?

I'm getting my rig prepared for the launch. I have a windows machine with 2 GPUs.

I'll share what I know. (Not much at this point, just reading the articles. I'm new to the Ethereum project)

This is a Windows Binary the Ethereum team released recently.

You have setup Python on your windows machine. This includes the Python Installer, pip.

What a complicated way to start mining it! Seems extremely technical and not exactly a "fair" release for regular crypto miners. Guess they have to start somewhere.

Time to brush up on some python

My old roommate has about 40 GPU rig that are collecting dust after he purchased scrypt miners that are now collecting dust.

    He may attempt it.

Switched to PC with R9 280X and getting 27.1 MH/s. Still no blocks.

@adam if the script failing, did you try --insight ?

    python mk_genesis_block.py --extradata 0x11bbe8db4e347b4e8c937c1c8370e4b5ed33adb3db69cbdb7a38e1e50b1b82fa > genesis_block.json --insight

    was what worked for me

The other issue I had was that I had python-bitcoinlib (Peter Todd's lib) installed. Both that and Vitalik's lib import simply as "bitcoin" within python. So when I ran the script, it used Peter's library and crashed half way through the process.

If you install Vitalik's bitcoin library into a venv and run the script from there, it works like a champ.
