Accidental double spend

Something odd happened today. I send some btc dust to one of my counterparty wallets to be able to do a transaction. I didn't use a fee to send it from my wallet to counterparty, since it is expensive enough already and I am patient. But counterparty can spend unconfirmed funds, so I recieved the dust and send some transactions. 24 hours the dust transaction was still unconfirmed and got returned to my balance. the counterparty balance is now back to confirming... double spended!

How is this possible? If the funds got spend by counterparty and that transaction is confirmed, but the dust transaction is not. Where did the bitcoin go?

counterparty
On blockchain there is record of the transaction ever happening!

Edit, I did have enough funds for the transaction before the dust transaction. so the amount is deducted but i still have more in my counterparty than should be. Maybe now I can send the excess amount back to my wallet and profit (allbeit some dust).

Sorry, not doing that for privacy reasons. I belong to the users that sort off use one address for everything. But you could try and reproduce it yourself.

Ok. Yeah its just hard to tell unless you actually seeing the transaction lol. If you want you could PM me, but no worries

mystery solved... almost. Counterparty can't spend funds from different addresses, it all happens on the blockchain. So it cannot spend more than it recieves, it actually used up the old balance and the dust deposit was never needed.

But this does not explain why counterparty shows up with a different balance (higher). This will however be no problem since counterparty will most likely give an error when I try to spend more than I actually have.

It is a known problem that counterparty can compute and display erroneous token totals after new transactions occur. My experience is that within 10-12 hours the token amounts get reconciled correctly.
