It was only a matter of time.

Guess it's time to try some way for "good" users to flag these "bad" users (various ideas have been discussed in other threads). Hard for me to wrap my head around a 100% decentralized and/or automatic way to do it, that can't backfire, or be gamed. Effective methods for dealing with this, in my mind, would be based around giving people with a solid reputation on this forum the power to limit the accounts of apparent bad actors. Maybe a subset of trusted members could be paid LTBc to deal with flagged accounts. Is granting people that power against the ethos of what we're doing here? Seems pure voting (as opposed to granting) could and would be gamed. Maybe there's a contribution threshold necessary to be deemed as trusted.

As a general worst-case-scenario person (oh I'm fun to be around), I fear how bad it could get if skilled aggressive hackers wanted to mess with our forum. For instance, what if thousands of fake accounts came online per day (and they didn't use such obviously-fake forum names)?

@cryptonaut I'm very interested in this as well. I planned some week back to write a theoretical article about gaming the LTB token system but decided for the sake of LTB not to give people ideas.

If you'd like to discuss automated flagging systems then I have some thoughts to share from my time trying to design an anti-bot system for my games.

My only qualifications are being a paranoid thinker, and listening religiously to a tech security podcast for years. But I'd be open to talking, if you think it would be of value.

Ah. I was talking to @cryptonaut, but having a non-programmer looking at problems is always good as well.

@kerneloops I just liked all of your posts. Take it!

You've been flagged for questionable liking.

Oops! Well, smart programmers such as yourselves probably will think of anything I will think of.

    why can't robots?

The current paradigms are not the same as truth, so be aware that: while corporations might today be, in some places, considered equal to people it has not always been the case, and it might not always be the case in the future.

So to answer the question you pose: The reason robots shouldn't be considered people while corporations, to some degree in some places are, is because they aren't people and they aren't corporations. They're different, and deserve to be valued on their own merits and given their own status and considerations.

That said, I still can't endorse the idea of corporations being people, or legal entities that removes responsibility from the people that take decisions to.. money.

I went ahead and deleted all those accounts, so their likes wont even count lol. Pretty lame attempt if you ask me, the usernames and emails were super obviously fake...

looks like I am going to have to add in email verification for all new accounts

Should we fear the centralized power you have? I say this tongue-in-cheek, because I completely trust you and Adam (and other's here, as well). I'm also in awe of how amazing your work on this site is! But I do have trouble reconciling philosophically how glad I am that you have the ultimate power on this site, vs. the goals of decentralization of such power. I'd be curious if anyone has thoughts on this.

I also am a bit unclear why adding an email address will do much to stop technical people from creating many accounts, since it isn't difficult to create a new email address for each account.
