MMM Global Republic of Bitcoin: Crypto's Next Scandal?
October 17th, 2015 by
William Suk Recently I came across a scam of alarming proportions. It is called “MMM Global Republic of Bitcoin.” Those who follow Ponzi schemes will immediately recognize the name MMM. In the 1990s, Russian fraudster Sergey Mavrodi ran one of Russia’s largest Ponzi schemes with the same name. Savvy marketing and promises of 1000%+ returns suckered tens of thousands of people into investing their savings in Mavrodi’s scheme. By 1994, when MMM’s offices were closed due to tax evasion, Mavrodi owed his investors beween 100 billion and 3 trillion rubles (between tens of millions and billions of dollars). Mavrodi spent a few years in jail, but by 2011, he was responsible for at least two other pyramid schemes.
Now Mavrodi is back in business, bigger and badder than ever. This time he is using Bitcoin.

Let's Talk Bitcoin! #256 Keep it Simple, Stupid!
October 17th, 2015 by
Adam B. Levine On Today's Show
We're zooming in on two projects that are keeping things simple with the idea that once you've solved the basic problems you can do all of the fun stuff. As technology enthusiasts we love the fun stuff, but even more we love projects actually getting to the people who can prove their value (or not!).
- Adam speaks with the founder of Joystream.co, a Bittorrent Client with a built-in bitcoin wallet that uses Payment Channels to let Downloaders pay Uploaders using market-based pricing.
- Matthew digs into the Bitmarkets project with founder Steve for an in-depth look at the choices they've made and why they make sense. This is a great interview. I'm very interested in this project and its ethos after hearing this interview.

SAFE Crossroads Podcast #19 SAFE School, Class Two, Going Deeper

John Ferguson In this Episode
Class Two of the SAFE Network School takes us deeper. We probe down and start to pull apart the great intricacy of the SAFE Network by closely examining the key elements that make it work. But not too fast or overwhelmingly. You'll be surprised how understandable it is when guided by a Simpleton who has already done most of the brain-warping exploration, so that you don't have to warp YOUR head so much.
Come along as we start to peel apart the "secrets" of how the ...

The Rise of the Internet of Value (IoV)
October 7th, 2015 by
Philip Farah How Blockchains Are About to Disrupt Industries, Governments, and People’s Lives
Most people are familiar with the trajectory of digital evolution to date, from Web 1.0 (a one-way content distribution net) to Web 2.0 (an interactive social net) and possibly Web 3.0 (where smart applications monitor data and make decisions as human’s agents, and in doing so interact with both humans, other apps, or IoT-enabled machines).
What might be less well-understood is the disruptive power of a new wave of digital capabilities enabled by cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoin) and the underlying distributed ledger technology enabling the P2P exchange of digital value (e.g., the blockchain).
