  • Re: New way to think of why the government is corrupt

    @irnhnve

    @deebee While I don't like not knowing how my representatives actually vote, I can see the reasoning for a secret ballot. The counter argument is that, come election time, the people have a referendum of sorts, and without actual performance information, the people are in the dark. I think the lobbying will continue, secret ballots or not.

    And the reason is that government has too much power. And someone will want or need to control that power.

    The point was that even if lobbying did continue, votes would not have to comply how the lobbyist wanted. The congress members could still lie and voted the way that the lobbyist wanted but really voted the other way

    Though I think there could be a happy medium of finding a way to use crypto for voting, he also made excellent points as to why crypto could not be used on mobiles for voting.

  • Re: Overstock and Counterparty devs split ways

    @irnhnve

    @pooktwo It is true that these problems exist. I do hope to see improvements to the platform, however, currently there reallyt isnt another 2.0 project that is implementing features like Counterparty does. NXT is doing it well, but I still am not really sure about what I think about the NXT community.... lots of secrets :/

    I agree. I still use Counterparty pretty frequently and just put up with the slowness for now. I have a feeling that when Ethereum gets released it's going to take over since they the developers have been able to use/see what Counterparty can do and will undoubtedly be including the same type of functionality in their protocol in addition to tons of other capabilities.

    It could have the opposite effect though, Ethereum has been promising the world and if it doesnt live up to the expectation then it could flop. Because here is the thing:

    Everyone that has heard of Counterparty has heard of Ethereum, but not everyone who has heard of Ethereum has heard of Counterparty.

    Once Ethereum is released, the Ethereum community will start to hear more about Counterparty and look into it. Hell probably even before that when Ethereum gets closer to launch. With Counterparty being built inside of Bitcoin that offers (in my opinion) a better system then a seperate blockchain that needs to be maintained.

    If you look at NXT, CP, and even Mastercoin a lot of projects looking to utilize btc 2.0 platforms have already begun to release their projects inside their choosen btc 2.0 platform. Ethereum projects built inside of it will have some catching up to do in order to compete with an already established btc 2.0 competition.

    • LTB coin
    • Storj
    • Swarm
    • MaidSafeCoin
    • FoldingCoin
    • Gemz
    • NuShares
    • CoinoUSD
    • and so forth

    These projects couuld switch over, but it would be a pain in the butt for this to happen. Very easily doable, but not as easy for things like getting holders to burn funds. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I have hopes that Ethereum will be great (because its cool and im invested in it) and they do have the benefits like you said of sitting back and watching everyone else.....

    Oh yeah, and they really have the hype :)

  • Re: 100k club

    @adam

    @markxmayer Yes. It was created back in October 2014. It seems to be abandoned at this point.

    In large part because I control many of the top addresses on behalf of the distribution in its various pools

    You guys have plans in the future to create TCA with actual value amounts that only allow someone with x amount to view correct?

    I do not think this is released yet, I think its just if you have 1 TOKEN then you can access the particular forum. Also the top 100 LTB is no longer accurate as trades and funds have moved around a bit since that forum was created

  • Re: What have you bought with bitcoin?

    I try and convince every waiter/waitress that I ever have to accept a tip in BTC. By doing this it is at least making them aware of the existence of the technology and believe it or not, i have about a 25% success rate of getting them to accept the BTC. Thats pretty good in my opinion :)

  • Re: Overstock and Counterparty devs split ways

    @irnhnve As much as I would've like them to use Counterparty for something like that, problems with their platform are painfully obvious after using it even 1 time. Everything is incredibly slow, random errors pop up from time to time, needing to leave your wallet open until a certain function is done working,etc. These things have been problems for months and if they haven't been fixed yet then it's not a good indicator of them being able to ramp up the user base like Medici will need. These were fundamental problems that needed to be fixed and are still a problem today.

    It is true that these problems exist. I do hope to see improvements to the platform, however, currently there reallyt isnt another 2.0 project that is implementing features like Counterparty does. NXT is doing it well, but I still am not really sure about what I think about the NXT community.... lots of secrets :/
