Re: bitcoin price
No one expects a breakout to the bottom though. Bear trend still in effect, rebuying lower seems smart.

Re: Bitcoin needed for remittance between UK and South Africa
Update
We managed to find someone willing to do a large enough sale of bitcoin through local bitcoins after getting recommended to them from someone else. They turned out to be very friendly and accommodating, although they did kind of mess us about with the pricing--in conversations before the deal they said they use Bitstamp price +5%, which is a fair enough value, but upon concluding the deal their price was close to around Bitstamp +7%, which irked me a bit since this pretty much took the price to acquire bitcoin above that which we would have gotten had we done a wire transfer to Coinfloor and paid bank fees and deposit costs.
So, for now, unless someone can beat the cost of sending pounds to Coinfloor + bank charges, then I think we are pretty much forced to pay the bank fees and what not, since we get more rands for our pounds that way.
Sad to think that buying through Local bitcoins is that much more expensive than doing it through a UK exchange that requires an international wire transfer.
I guess the good thing that came out of this is I got my mom to use a bitcoin wallet (Airbitz :D) and once again she was amazed that she was able to transfer a substantial amount of money in such and effortless manner :)

Re: Bitcoin needed for remittance between UK and South Africa
@adrian-sutton Sorry I cant help with the UK, but can just add I also use BitX.co.za, to convert Rands to BTC and always had hassle free great exp.
Hey Adrian, BitX are great indeed, love their new app as well.
If we manage to arrange something with someone in the UK, if you would like to buy BTC from me personally, let me know and we'll do some private deals without the Bitx exchange fees. I'll even do the current spot price on BitX with no mark up at all, just to sell them quickly and get the cash to my parents.
Let me know :)

Bitcoin needed for remittance between UK and South Africa
Hey everyone. Hope you are all good.
Here is our story.
So my mother currently does 3-6 month stints of work in the UK and she regularly sends home money to my dad(at least once every 2 weeks or so, definitely once a month). I've been trying to source a proper way for her to buy bitcoin in the UK, but the UK seems to be living in the bitcoin stone age.
Last year after we both set up an account for her on Coinfloor, about a week later coinfloor notified its customers about their closure of UK deposits via faster payments and that the only way to depost GBP into coinfloor was through SEPA/International wire transfer, which carried a hefty charge of 25 pounds from Barclays to do.
One. Massive. Sigh
The massive sigh is because the cost to use Barclays to send and convert Pounds into ZAR is 33 pounds.
Since then it's been my one week after the next looking at other options, like Netagio, Safello, bittylicious etc, but nothing that presented itself as viable in any sustainable sense.
At the outset I was wanting to help out my folks, but also at the same time share with them this lovely ability to send monetary value over the internet relatively instantly, as opposed to the 3-4 day period Barclays offered.
So after resigning myself to the fact that the UK banks are oligopolistic a-holes unwilling(or afraid) of bitcoin(they really shouldn't be, but meh) I just wanted to get my mother to try out the bitcoin system at least once. Tried local bitcoins, but my mother is quite techno illiterate and for her buying something as obscure as "funny internet money" from a website was just not sitting well with her.
Even so, after contacting a few people on Local bitcoins, some never responded, or some asked for prices so high that it was cheaper to just send money using the legacy system of someone at a bank rubbing their hands together to change one set of numbers to another set, all the whille taking their nice cut.
I was determined, though.
After asking around on whale.club(team speak trading channel) I secured a deal before with a gentleman from the UK, who was kind enough to let us buy some bitcoin from him. A small amount, around 0.95BTC. Mother paid into his bank account, he sent me the bitcoin and within a few hours of me selling i t on a local exchange (BitX.co.za) my father had some extra cash in his bank account.
Needless to say, my parents where astonished that it went so quick and that they saved around 28 pounds(exchange fees and private sale mark-up) to be able to send cash home.
So, this long winded story is not just meant to show the capabilities of successfuly using bitcoin to do remittance(although it is and you guys and girls surely know this) but is meant to serve as a backdrop to another question I want to ask any UK users here on LTBC: Is there any user here who is willing to sell bitcoin to us on a regular basis and in generally large amounts? Around 10 or so every two weeks if my maths is correct.
We'll pay whatever the spot price is on Coinfloor plus a reasonable mark up. The mark up wont be as high compared to local bitcoin(8-10 pounds) and the reason is this is not meant to be a once-off kind of thing, but a regular occurence while she works in the UK and sends money ranging in the thousands of pounds per month.
Even if you know of someone in the UK who regulalry sells bitcoin. like your "local bitcoin person", put us in contact and we can take it from there.
So there it is, thanks for reading and I thank anyone in advance who is able to help or put me in contact with a UK seller of bitcoin.
As an extra token of appreciation, the user (or users) who help in this regard can get some stash of my LTBC (region of 70 000) as an extra thank you!
