  • Re: The Red Pill Episode

    heh, iv also always thought of it as kind of being like the matrix. It really is like take the blue pill and go on with your normal life.. or take the red pill and be prepared to forget about everything you thought you knew about money and the world lol. Its pretty crazy how far down the rabbit hole we have all gone.

    I think the whole concept of mining really throws people off, and its one of the first things that gets mentioned by most people. Its basically an entire subject in itself, so you go from explaining what bitcoin in general is, to trying to wrap their heads around mining specifically and how your computer can basically solve a random math problem and get money for it. Its hard to explain, so most people get confused by it.

    @loon3 LTBCOIN User Balance

    Until a balance feature is added to the site, here's a quick option for people to check their LTBCOIN balance using their forum username.

    this is cool. is this using our API or are you just parsing from their user profile?

    This parses the address from the user profile then gets the balance using the blockscan API. I didn't realize you guys had an API; feel free to send me over any reference info you have regarding it.

    Yeah, thats what I figured, only a few people even know about it :p

    I will be opening up documentation for it soon (I need to update it first), but here is a quick method to get the address for anybody:

    make a GET request to: http://letstalkbitcoin.com/api/v1/users/cryptonaut (replace my username with anyone). - comes back as JSON

    response->profile->profile[ltbcoin-address]->value

    hey @pinheadmz

    It looks like we actually probably already have somebody for the position (that was really fast I know :p), but thanks! However I will give you a shout soon, we can probably still fit you in somehow. We are going to be opening up the entire platform to everyone fairly soon here as well

    Thanks

  • Re: What should be added to the forums?

    @robmitchell I can't find anywhere in the mobile version of the site that tell how many notifications we have, and links to them (like I see on my computer). As email notifications don't always seem to get past the spam filter, it would be helpful.

    good call actually. Il make note of this

  • Re: What should be added to the forums?

    @adam I'm interested, but this isn't really a problem right now, authors tend to be credited. Not saying it's not a good idea, just not so pressing for me because we have so much else on the roadmap.

    for sure, just an extra goodie we can add on at some point once we have more important stuff done

  • Re: What should be added to the forums?

    @william Exactly. I checked proofofexistence.com and that is exactly like what I was thinking. Um... It appears that they don't charge any fees??? Is it a free service?

    Id imagine you still need to pay at least a miners fee to get it on the blockchain, so it would be small.

  • Re: What should be added to the forums?

    @william Here is something that could be added to the main site, rather than the forums. For people who publish an article, you could have a system where the hash of that article, including the author's name, is published along with the article, and then that hash is recorded in the blockchain at the time of publication as well, so that the author could use that hash to prove original authorship. This could then be used in copyright cases, for instance. The author would just have to produce a text (including his name, of course) that would match the hash recorded in the blockchain, to show that he wrote it at a particular time. [although, it might not work perfectly bc he could take previously published material, add his name and claim to have published it?]

    Maybe this is what the whole "proof of publication" means in the first place. I guess that I'm saying (or asking) is whether PoP could be extended in a way that has broader applicability, outside the LTB network ecosystem. And, if this works, LTB could offer a type of notary service, paid for in LTBcoin, where anyone could easily upload a doc or a text file, and then the hash of that file is recorded in the block chain. Am I making any sense?

    Built in automated proof of existence, I like it! We could integrate with these guys: http://www.proofofexistence.com/ . So basically a writer could optionally provide a small fee along with their article when they submit it, and then when it gets published a proof of existence is created and put onto the blockchain, with the resulting verification also published.

    @adam thoughts?
