If so, what is it's track record? how reliable is it? who runs it?
The only thing keeping me from putting in a small amount to try with is that I don't get the payment back in BTC which means yet one more layer of things that can go wrong.

The owner of XBTC is Jeremy Lam (known as Global Trade Repo on the counterparty forums), the guy behind Vendd.io (the guy that originally made the automated vending machines - interviewed on a LTB episode once I believe). He also runs a similar mining fund for Ghash.io (GIGAHASH). Hes on the forums to.. @led_lcd

@goldbit: i am a little confused about this,if we didn't get them as a free distribution today then how did we get them? Seems to be you did give up some personal shares but will be making a 2% commission on each one daily which sounds low but really is not a bad compounded yearly sum.

The benefits of investing directly are 2-fold:
- I get to keep/reinvest the 2%
- There are fewer points of failure (Petamine and Havelock vs. Petamine, Havelock, Counterparty, fund manager)
You are correct. You are free to invest directly on havelock yourself. The main difference being that with the PETAMINE counterparty fund, you dont need to bother checking havelock every day and keeping up on the daily reinvestments etc.. so if you want to keep that extra 2% and do your own reinvestment strategy (and have the time to keep up on it), then feel free :)
As far as goldbits specific question is concerned, yes the ones most of you got (the people with just 1 PETAMINE token) were from a free promotional distribution I did yesterday. The shares from that came from my own pocket

@vincent-vega It seems that holders will be getting less and less BTCX every week. If BTC price will go up then payouts become even smaller.
Its not tied to the USD/BTC prices.. basically it depends on how well the PetaMine mining operation can keep up with the increasing BTC network difficulty.
