Perhaps it would help to have a header, link, or some other sort of way to direct them toward new user info. It seems that may are coming here because of LTBC, and have no idea how to get started. If you look around long enough you can find the info, but it's not really easy to find for new people. Any thoughts?

I 100% agree. However, there already is a new user sub-forum at the top of the sidebar. What incentive do they have to click that when they can repost a basic question and 'earn' some LTBc even though the question has been asked 10x before.I've been thinking about it for a little while now and will put together something eventually but the incentive structure is all out of wack here. Barely any actual content is on the forums and the majority is just users posting for the sake of posting.

How much reward does someone get for simply posting vs. the reward for likes? A good reward for likes should create an incentive to make posts that aren't complete fluff, though it would create pandering and likewhoring.

Maybe there should be a welcome page which appears only once after the registration to teach new users all the main features of the LTB network (and how to earn LTBc of course).

Oh how I hate the formatting here. I tried to copy n paste the chart but it does work. You can see Here scroll down, that a like is .5 vs a forum post being 4. There is some weight to the scale though and only the first forum post of the day is 4, then it goes lower. Compare that to entering a magic word, 5. Seems a little low for entering a magic word vs posting.

I don't think like whoring would be a problem personally. It almost seems as if people are reluctant to click like on posts that deserve it. I have wondered how many people think about clicking like, but then do not so they won't "take away" ltbc from themselfs.

One thing is for sure. This whole experiment is certainly fascinating to watch. I can imagine a future in ten years where tokens such as ltbc are common place and thinking back to where it all started. :) In case no one has said it lately, thanks @adam , It's been a fun ride!

I can see how some people may think that way. Personally, I see giving a like as giving a tip. If you like the good posts then it gives people an incentive to make good posts to get your likes.

Giving someone a like gives them more than it takes away from you.

Example: Last week there was 1,506,743.23 LTBc rewarded and 40,953.79 points earned. That makes 36.79130136673553 LTBc/point unrounded. Suppose you earned 31 points, the average points per participating user last week. That would be 1140.5303423688015 LTBc earned before rounding.

If you gave out one more like then there would be 40,954.29 points earned. That would be 36.79085219155307 LTBc/point unrounded. The 31 points you earned would then be 1140.5164179381452 LTBc unrounded. That is 0.0139244306563 LTBc less than you earn without doing the extra like.

Let's say the person you are tipping also earned the average of 31 points, not including the extra like. That means they would also receive 1140.5303423688015 LTBc. With the extra like they earn 31.5 points for a total of 1158.9118440339219 LTBc, 18.3815016651204 more. They earn 1320 times as much as you lose.

With rounding to two digits, you earn the same amount of LTBc. They earn 18.40 LTBc extra.

tl;dr Each like you make gives the person you are tipping LTBc without any real drop in your own, at the expense of the rest of the participants.

One thing is for sure. This whole experiment is certainly fascinating to watch. I can imagine a future in ten years where tokens such as ltbc are common place and thinking back to where it all started. :) In case no one has said it lately, thanks @adam , It's been a fun ride!

Indeed. That's something that I love about the whole cryptocurreny thing in general is watching the massive experiment unfold.

Would never have taken the time to do the math myself. Great point, perfectly illustrated by math. Kudos!

100% agreed with comments above. The incentives are there on paper, but it is a bit out of wack with the current basic implementation. Once we have the blog writing and submission interfaces and workflow rebuilt (which should hopefully start producing some more frequent and quality content on the front page... working on this stuff right now) then the main focus is going to be revamping the forums, which theoretically should fix a lot of the issues people have been having and discourage spam and posting just for sake of posting. So, hang tight for that stuff!

I also think all the Proof of Participation stuff should be more transparent. Maybe if users actually saw that their 20th post of the day would only give them like 0.005 points then they wouldnt bother :)
