Token Quantity

Just a general question, but is there a rule of thumb when determining quantity of a token to issue when creating an asset? And what are the factors to consider when determining token issuance? My apologies in advance if this is a vague question, but this space is very new to me and I am very eager to get as involved as possible

Thanks in advance

Nope! no rule of thumb, at least not yet.

I like to think in terms of relative value. Do you want a Bitcoin or a Doge? Pick a number between 1 and 99 - If you want something that is very valuable, rare and traded fractionally when it matures (the easy money days are over) than stick 6 zeros behind it. (xx,000,000)

If you want to Doge it up and make people generous, stick 9 zeros behind it (xx,000,000,000)

For LTB we wanted something in the middle so picked a number (51) and stuck seven zeros behind it (510,000,000)

When thinking about who should earn the tokens and how many, look at your ecosystem and determine which groups and actions, if they were not there or were not performed, would render the platform worthless. In the case of LTB there are three groups of decending importance. Content Creators, the Audience that consumes that content, and the platform that enables both.

Do you have a particular project?

I have a few ideas that are in a super early stage and need a lot more thought put into them before putting into any kind of asset creation just yet, but the opportunity that the platform offers is amazing...almost seems too amazing but I want to get to work as soon as possible. Just don't want to misstep too badly and ruin a good plan due to incorrect token quantities etc...

and thanks for the quick reply, another beautiful aspect of this space is the community will quickly give feedback (good bad or indifferent) but quick none the less

iv been tending around 100,000 as my default quantities. seems like a decent number for smaller projects

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to set a few up for qty 1 soon and mull over how thin to spread the tokens. This is all just so different but very exciting

I personally am very fond of the values 100 and 1. These are intuitive for all cases where you need to represent percentages.

Obviously they'd make horrible units in some or most other cases, but this goes to show you that previously suggested numbers are just that: suggestions.

so in a 100 scenario, it may be easier to represent a percentage even if divisible...much like how BTC users adopted the mBTC option...

If so, I like that approach. There's something to be said for having 10,000 of something, but if that 10,000 is only worth, say $50, would the psychological view of 0.10 being worth the same be more palatable?

Even though it seems so obvious now, I never even considered using a token quantity of 100 to directly represent a percentage of the whole. Great idea!
