I used to do promotion for Looney Labs as a "Mad Lab Rabbit". I dressed in a lab coat, put on rabbit ears and demoed products at suitable events. They were (are?) a gaming company; physical stuff like card games and stuff with little plastic pyramids. As a promoter I got access to promotional items to hand out and early access to stuff still being developed. I would check in with my activities and I would receive points I could put toward purchasing retail products at a discount.

I also used to be a GeoCities Community Leader, but that was a long time ago and all I mostly remember is when Yahoo ruined it.

Not everything would be helpful here, but some bits will be. If anyone has similar experience, please share some details. And everyone should feel free to ask questions about specific details. I personally might not remember details about some of my prior volunteer work, but there's no point in reinventing the wheel if we don't have to.

    Great thread.

From 2004-2007 I ran GamerAndy.com, a gaming community blog, podcast and community.

From 2009-2011 I was the design (and unofficial community) lead of http://omgmod.org - I also led the "Shoutcast" community for this effort http://www.viddler.com/v/73f3e312

For the last few years, I've also gotten involved with multiple Kickstarters and learned a lot watching single founders fail over and over again.
