I was never a big fan of Sovereign BTC, even though I liked many of the things they discussed, because of the gun issue. In Canada, we don't see things the same way. The idea of the US Second Amendment is alien to us, and frankly, it scares us. At the same time, I appreciate people who believe in a principle and stand by it. Even Ron Paul, who I have a great deal of respect for, held views on gun ownership that I just couldn't agree with.
I recently saw a tweet by someone called Michael Hill (@amhill on twitter), who I don't know and don't follow, but I thought made a very important point. His tweet:

Haven't heard anything from the #NRA saying the people of Ferguson need guns to protect themselves from the oppressive government. Curious.
Where is the Tea Party and the NRA here? Here's a chance to demonstrate that your political ideas are not only universal, but, arguably, urgently needed, yet there is only silence. I don't want to assume racism, and that's hard, so I'd love to have a Tea Party response to this. I still won't agree with you, but if you want to make an inspired argument in favour of the 2nd amendment, based on recent events, you will have my deepest respect.
