I bet we'll see a whole bunch of ETF's in the coming future. Litecoin will probably get it's own ETF and then maybe there will be baskets ETFs of miscellaneous coins that have holdings that represent varying degrees of risk.
Once the ball starts rolling on 'regulated' investments, there wont be enough time to approve all the new financial instruments that investors want. They will be driven to finally learn bitcoin and buy directly!!! One can only dream...
I'll always hold my hands up and admit I am new to all of this. But as for a Cryptocurency such as Bitcoin, besides making a profit for the person buying into an EFT - what other value does it hold? Can they actually use the coin if they wanted to or is it tied up until they decide to sell?

I'm not a financial advisor, but I'm guessing that owning ETF shares will be make it easy (or even possible?) for tax-advantaged accounts like IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401Ks[1], etc. [2] to gain exposure to cryptocurrency risk/reward profiles.
Beyond that, I personally see little benefit, since by owning shares of the "Crypto-ETF", you don't own the cryptocurrency directly and in a way that can be traded immediately and at will.
But again, this is just my amateur understanding. Void where prohibited by law. No warranty expressed or implied. Your mileage may vary. Toxic if ingested.
[1] For those whose 401K plan administrators are enlightened enough to allow people to make their own decisions about their own investments.
[2] I don't know how this affects those outside the US tax farm... er... country. I do acknowledge that people live outside the US, and that tax-advantaged accounts exist in non-US tax farms... er... countries.
i just want a DATE!!!!!
Thanks for the explanation. I will be very curious to see how the next few months to year play out and what effect it has.
A couple of points I would like to add:
The Wall Street boys have BUYING power. They think in 100's Billions not millions.
its going to a be a very interesting landscape.

This indeed is a major shift in paradigm. I'm an optimist so lets watch and see what the future hold in stock.
Any Exchange traded fund, note, partnership etc, is extremely bullish if history is any thing like the past. I remember when gld and slv etfs came online they also spurred a lot do copy cat etfs that also became net natural buyers to establish a fund. And the effect was notable on price and volume.
