Since a month or so the news in Europe has been flooded with stories about people drowning in the Mediterranean sea. Some of these people refugees, some of them fortune seekers. Why don't truly desperate people try to make it to other African countries OVER LAND? These countries are less rich than the average EU country, but still they are safe. Don't tell me there aren't any safe countries in the whole northern African region. Instead the people choose for an extremely risky journey across the sea.

Makes me wonder how many of these people are truly fleeing.

What are your thoughts about the refugees?

Europe is paying for her sins (esp colonialism). That's my thought. Let them all come. The world should have no borders.

Borders never helps. Europe will need to more actively help Africa and middle east. Help them so people will not leave it and go to Europe. That is only option i see.

Open borders would encourage people to sail to the EU. I believe this will result in more deaths since their boats are so crappy. Another option would indeed be to help them so they won't have a need to go to a different country, but what can you do? Besides, some people welcome help, while others think you are messing with their business and don't want your countrys involvement. Help is never fully accepted.

Open borders is kind of like thw elfare system, on paper it looks and sounds great.... until people corrupt and abuse the spirit of what its trying to accomplish.

The world is not yet ready for open borders and the refugees are just looking to go somewhere in which they can try and build a life. Africa has different problems, but still problems. Europe nations are more economically established just like the USA is
