I hate to admit the failure of butterflylabs did kill a product that looked pretty awesome, the bitsafe.

Does any one have and first had experience with a hardware wallet like trezor etc that I can hear some pros or cons about.

also do you feel they are safer then a bip38 paper wallet why,- why not?

Thank you in advance.

Also does counter Wallet have 2 factor?

No two factor that I am aware of for counterwallet yet.

From what I understand, a Trezor is pretty secure. However I would bet that a BIP38 address on a paperwallet is more secure just because it is not susceptible to hardware failure. Hardware wallets are still electronic devices that comes with the limitations that such a device can encounter. All of my cold storage addresses use BIP38 paper wallets. I think a Trezor would definitely work best for a hot wallet, but if you wont be spending or moving the coins for a long time, a BIP38 wallet is better.

Private key security is a serious business.

Last Bitsafe was just a fake prototype with no real security in mind.

Bitcoincard is pure vaporware with unrealistic Xfiles-like features.

Paper wallets are not real day to day convenient solutions and do not cover the secure spending part.

For now, the only existing secure hardware wallet is the HW1 from http://www.hardwarewallet.com : this is the only solution based on a secure element (smart card) and made by security experts. I recommend to use it (not mandatory) with the Green Address solution, the two teams worked together to obtain the most secure and full featured solution (2of3 multisig, instant spending, and you can backup your seed on paper if you fear hardware failure...).

Trezor is a nice solution, with a nice team... but this should not be considered as a secure solution. We hacked it once and made a first report (this was patched). We will probably make another security issue report soon, we are a bit surprised to be the only team to challenge their solution, please do not put too many confidence into it.

Our own PRISMicide foundation is working on the open source & open hardware Bitcoin Pinpad project (new name for PRISMicide for Bitcoin), which add another level of security and smart phone / tablet compatibility to secure elements like the existing HW1 and and the future open source MicroSIM based solution. (Bitcoin Pinpad is a small portable device with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, you can follow the hardware side of the project on http://www.origamiboard.com)

[Edited note : part of the BTChip team that brought HW1 hardwarewallet.com is working on PRISMicide projects too...]

By the way, there are very few hardware wallet projects with real security in mind but USB Armory is worth a look too : http://inversepath.com/usbarmory

I feel it needs pointing out here that @PRISMicide is affiliated with http://www.hardwarewallet.com . Not saying this is a bad thing, but from the above post, it is a bit unclear. Full disclosure and all that.

Yes, thanx for pointing that out, we usually don't hide that point, I edited my previous post to clarify this : Part of the BTChip team (behind hardwarewallet.com) is working on PRISMicide projects like the Bitcoin Pinpad. I am not part of BTChip team myself. PRISMicide projects are open source and open hardware projects.

I am still confident to say that HW1 is the only secure hardware wallet for now :) but I am happy to point every hardware wallet projects using secure elements architecture (like usb armory).

We need more secure hardware wallets.

There's another thread on the Trezor you may want to check out: http://letstalkbitcoin.com/forum/post/opinions-on-the-trezor-hardware-wallet?page=1

And you should be able to set up a new address in Counterwallet with the option to Create Armory Offline Address. Here are more details: http://support.counterparty.io/support/articles/5000004858-cold-storage-of-counterparty-assets-btc-using-armory-counterwallet
